Robert Cooney, 61

WAREHAM – Robert F. “Bob” Cooney, Jr., 61, of East Wareham died suddenly on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Joan C. (Bradford) Cooney.

Born in Dorchester, he was the son of Marie (Skehan) Cooney of Lakeville, and the late Dr. Robert F. Cooney. A lifelong resident of Wareham, Bob graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Kingston, Class of 1979, and received his bachelor’s degree from Springfield College in 1984. He was currently the store manager for Aubuchon Hardware in Wareham.

Bob was a music lover and enjoyed listening to good music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. He loved stargazing and skiing. He watched Jeopardy nightly and enjoyed trivia contests, and enjoyed solving the daily Boston Globe crossword puzzle. Bob was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Grogan Council # 15280 in Wareham.

Survivors include his wife Joan of E. Wareham; his daughters, Lisa M. Cooney of Medford and Patricia A. Cooney of Wareham; his mother, Marie of Lakeville; his brothers and sisters, Mary Crossman and husband, Daren of Lakeville, Tim Cooney and Kathleen Braley and husband, Ralph, all of Wareham, Carol Spenard and husband, Ken of Rochester, Teresa Mattson and husband, Wayne of Marion, Dan Cooney and Gail Denis of Dartmouth, Marie Blotner and husband, Joe of Carver, Terry and Dilly Cooney of Erwin, NC, John Cooney and wife Erin of Middleboro, and Anne Fihlman and husband, Erik of Bethlehem, PA. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, “Sadie.”

His funeral will be from Chapman Funerals and Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Wed., December 21, 2022 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM.
