Ronnie Oliver, 62
Ronnie J. Oliver, 62, of Wareham and Cape Coral, Florida, died Oct. 20 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Born in Valdosta, Georgia, he was the son of the late John Oliver and Elizabeth (Anderson) Johnson. Ronnie moved to Wareham in 1959 and graduated from Wareham High School in 1974 and UMass Amherst. After college, Ronnie served for a brief period in the Merchant Marines. He began his teaching career as student teacher for the Newton Public School System, then went on to teach health and physical education at Wareham Middle School for many years.
Ronnie also taught driver’s education and was the coach for the freshman football team and the girls’ basketball and track teams. During his summer break, he worked as a cook at Camp Baeurcrest in Amesbury and drove an ice cream truck. Ronnie enjoyed creating origami and jewelry.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela Burnes of Onset; his siblings, Geraldine Oliver, Brenda Oliver and Senethra Powell all of Valdosta, Georgia, Billie Atkins and Ira Atkins both of Wareham and Deborah McNeil of Wilmington, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Timothy Burnes, Jasmine Burnes, Joshua Burnes.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, Oct. 29 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, Wareham.
