Feb 27, 2010

A statement issued by the Canal Area Regional Traffic Task Force announced that the Army Corps of Engineers will begin repair work on the Sagamore Bridge on Monday, March 1st. The deck repairs and paving is still expected to be completed later this spring.

Travel Restrictions are planned weather permitting starting Monday, March 1st at 10am and continuing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until completion of the project. During the scheduled repairs to the Bridge, travel will be reduced from two lanes in each direction to ONE LANE IS EACH DIRECTION. No wide loads will be permitted to cross the span.

Drivers and visitors should be aware that travel delays are likely to occur and should make every effort to seek alternative routes and avoid the bridge during morning and afternoon peak travel periods.

The Task Force has developed an online resource capecodrta.org/sagamorebridge to provide traffic cameras and more detailed information regarding the construction timeline, lane shifts and restrictions and any other adjustments to the project schedule.

The Task Force will also provide message boards at both approaches to the Sagamore Bridge to keep motorists advised of the traffic conditions and work efforts. In addition, fixed signage will be installed at all approach roads to the Bridge, alerting motorists to the work and associated travel restrictions.
