Santa and Mrs. Claus: Wareham children were good this year

Dec 25, 2012

While his elves were busy shining the bells on Santa's sleigh and brushing the reindeer in preparation for the big night, ol' St. Nick and Mrs. Claus found some time on Christmas Eve to talk about the past year.

The big news?

"No one here is getting coal in this community," said Santa.

So what were children asking for this year?

Skylanders were high on little boys' lists, while Lalaloopsy dolls were popular among girls.

"It's been a big year for iPads," added Mrs. Claus.

The classic Easy Bake Oven was on many lists, and Santa even had a few children ask for a trampoline.

Asked how he'd fit trampolines in his sleigh, Santa thought for a second and said, "That's a good question. I'd have to use the expanded version of the sleigh."

Santa wanted to remind people, however, that it's important to remember the cost-free gifts of Christmas, such as compassion, kindness, and love.

Santa noted that he had a great time working with the Wareham Village Association during its Frosty's Christmas Train event this year.

"I was especially impressed with the Honor Society students at the middle school and high school," Santa said. Those students worked as elves for the day.

"The real God-given gift of this community is volunteerism," Santa said of Wareham, adding that it's been "a great year of people trying to work together to solve their problems."

Wareham Week thanks residents Tom and Sheila Monaghan for their help with the preparation of this report.
