Santa knows all about Wareham — really
Wareham resident H. Ray Price has returned from a Christmas vacation in the North Pole with the news that Santa knows quite a lot about Wareham.
Any kid might respond, "No duh," but Price's story is a little different.
Price’s son is an Army lieutenant stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, and when he visited for Christmas, father and son took a detour to North Pole, Alaska.
This is not the North Pole that is inaccessible without flying, or traveling through the Arctic with an ice breaker. The town was named North Pole, and has a Santa’s village, which makes for a tourist destination around the holidays.
Price's son "said we had to go visit Santa at the North Pole," Price explained.
Price is the Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Management for Southcoast Health System, and he asked Santa to take a picture with him holding the Southcoast Health System flag. That spurred a conversation.
Santa "asked where I was from, and he said, ‘Oh, that’s where Tobey Hospital is,’” said Price. “I was shocked.”
Santa also identified a few other landmarks around town, including the lighthouses near the Wareham Police Station.
“I said, ‘Santa, are you from Massachusetts?'" Price recalled. "He said, ‘No, but I had to make a couple of stops there.’”
Touché.
