Santa plans to parade down Main Street
Event Date:
On Dec. 7 at 2:00 p.m. Santa will begin his visit to the town at Wareham High School, riding on the back of a fire engine through Main Street and past Besse Park before disembarking and climbing aboard a boat which will take him down river to Warren’s Harborview and the families waiting to greet him at the Harborview pavilion.
More than 30 other parade members will travel alongside Santa. The precession will include, floats, horses, three marching bands, families in decorated cars and vehicles and personnel from the fire and police departments.
“Every year that I have run it it has gotten bigger,” said Tracy McGraw who is president of the Wareham Village Association and has been in charge of the parade for the last 11 years.
“If you have the energy going into something like this you can spread that and it just grows,” McGraw said.
McGraw said Santa’s place at the Warren’s Harborview pavilion is the big change this year. Families will have an opportunity to take pictures with Santa under the pavilion which will be lit with Christmas lights and warmed by outdoor heaters.
Cookies and hot chocolate made by the kitchen staff at the Warren’s Harborview will be served to those gathered near the pavilion.
“Every little piece that goes into the holiday spirit is important,” McGraw said.
The festivities will end before dark on Saturday.
“It’s a small little hometown parade that just brings so many people joy, I’ll do it as long as I can,” McGraw said.
