Scallop Fest tents have arrived
What goes up every third weekend after Labor Day?
A massive undertaking took place Wednesday, Sept. 15, as two large tents were installed at Buzzards Bay Park for the 41st Annual Bourne Scallop Fest. The Main Tent will contain the food and entertainment and an adjacent tent will contain a new juried Craft Show managed by Castleberry Fairs of New Hampshire.
Marie Oliva, president and CEO of the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce, stated: "Once people see the tent, they know it's Scallop Fest time. We invest up to $250,000 each year in expenses relating to the Fest, such as hiring local employees, tents, electrical, plumbing, equipment, marketing, and supplies. It's a tremendous economic development boom to the town and region. Expected are over 50,000 people on September 24, 25, 26."
Through the help of the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office, the entire set-up takes about seven days prior to the Fest. And, the tent will stay up for the following week's 2nd Annual On the Water StriperFest on Saturday, Oct 2. It's another example of attracting thousands of people over the next few weeks in the community.
