Select Board honors exceptional JROTC cadet

Nov 9, 2021

The Select Board issued a proclamation on Nov. 9 to recognize Wareham High School senior Austin Tripp, who was recently awarded a Legion of Valor with Bronze Cross.

The award was given to just 33 Junior ROTC cadets this year who have shown excellence in academics, community service, and leadership.

There are more than 550,000 cadets in the world, making this award an exceptional accomplishment.

Tripp is the only cadet in Massachusetts to earn this award this year.

“Only the most dedicated of cadets are chosen,” said board chair Judith Whiteside.

“I’d just like to thank everyone,” Tripp said.

Tropp joined the JROTC program in ninth grade.

Tripp has also played varsity football and baseball, and has taken a number of advanced classes. Currently, he’s enrolled in four advanced placement classes.
