Selectmen give residents more beach access
Many residents will now have free access to an additional beach in town thank to a Selectmen decision made Tuesday night.
At the recommendation of Harbormaster Garry Buckminster, Selectmen approved the addition of the Shell Point parking lot to areas that residents can park for free with a beach/dump sticker.
The sticker also allows for parking at Swifts Neck, Swifts Beach and Little Harbor as well as the blue areas on the Onset Parking map -- which can be found on the town’s parking information website, parkwareham.com.
The beach/dump sticker is $30 per year, $15 for seniors.
The change was supported by the Board of Road Commissioners and the Town Administrator in previous meetings. Buckminster, is not a member of the ROad Commissioners, who oversee the Onset Parking Program, but he did play an instrumental part in its inception.
In other news, Selectman Alan Slavin said the Cape Flyer train will return to Wareham this summer starting May 22. He said the transit organization is trying everything they can to make the ride experience user friendly.
“They want to make the train more viable for everyone,” he said.
Selectman Patrick Tropeano announced that in the near future the board will be “going on the road” and hold its meetings in other places in town to hopefully drum up more citizen involvement.
