Sen. Pacheco takes suggestions

Jun 30, 2010

State Senator Marc Pacheco (D-Taunton) visited Wareham Tuesday, holding an economic forum with residents and helping to kick off the Safe Summer 2010 initiative.

Pacheco spoke to a room of more than 70 people from Wareham and neighboring towns, and asked what he should be doing in regards to the economy.

State Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Ian Bowles also attended the forum to speak about environmental priorities.

"For me, it is the issue of the day that we need to try to deal with, is finding new ways to create an atmosphere where we can stimulate jobs and improve the private sector, primarily the private sector economy," Pacheco said after the forum.

Suggestions included everything from bringing rail service to Wareham to putting signs on the highway directing drivers to Wareham's beaches and attractions.

"We're going to try to put together a four, five, ten-point plan that we can start working on regionally," Pacheco said.

Following the forum, Pacheco helped kick off Town Administrator Mark Andrews' Safe Summer 2010 initiative on the Onset Pier. A cookout was held, with participating town employees, Safe Summer volunteers, the Board of Selectmen, and State Representative Susan Williams Gifford (R-Wareham) in attendance.
