September activities planned for seniors

The Council on Aging has a number of activities planned for seniors this month. Office hours will be Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Multiservice Center at 48 Marion Rd.

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, learn to make greeting cards at 9:15 a.m. Materials will be provided to complete four to five finished cards. Space is limited, so sign up by calling 508-291-3130. A $3 donation is requested.

Also on Sept. 14, the Onset Bay Center will lead a “Charts and Knot Tying” program as part of its summer series, starting at 9 a.m. at the center in Onset. Space is limited and registration is required. Contact Kat Garofoli at 508-999-6363 to register.

On Monday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. naturalist John Root will host a free interactive presentation titled “Attracting Birds and Pollinators.” The program is sponsored by the Wareham Cultural Council.

The Tri-County Symphonic Band Brass Quartet will perform on Monday, Sept. 27 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The free program is open to the public and is one of Symphony’s smaller chamber groups with a repertoire ranging from classical to jazz to music of the 40s to current pop and rock music. The performance is sponsored by the Wareham Cultural Council.

There are also a number of weekly activities scheduled. 

Play Mahjong at 1 p.m. each Tuesday at the Cranberry Café. Anyone interested in learning is invited to arrive for instruction at noon.

Every Monday, play cribbage from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 208.

Weekly Coffee and Conversation takes place each Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Cranberry Café.

On Tuesdays, play chair volleyball at 10 a.m. at the Multiservice Center. Or, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, do Tai Chi at the Multiservice Center.

Every Wednesday at 1 p.m., make mats for the homeless in Room 102. All materials are provided.

On Thursdays, Pam will lead Chair Yoga at 2 p.m. at the Multiservice Center. Sign up by calling 508-291-3130.

An 8-week Walking Group will begin on Sept. 15. More information will be available soon.

Grab and Go Box Lunches are available Tuesdays and Thursdays, courtesy of the Old Colony Elder Services. Lunches must be reserved at least three days in advance by calling 508-291-3130, and can be picked up at the Multiservice Center handicap ramp between 9 and 9:30 a.m. The menu is available on Facebook and in the Senior Beacon.
