Seven Wareham Gatemen to participate in Cape League All-Star Game

Jul 22, 2015

Seven Wareham Gatemen are set to participate in the Saturday's All-Star Game at Spillane Field. This includes three starters, four reserves and one Home Run Derby contestant.

Making the starting roster for the West division All-Stars are center fielder Andrew Calica, catcher Nick Cieri and starting pitcher Blake Fox.

Fox, a left-handed senior at Rice University, has started three games for the Gatemen and won all three, only surrendering one earned run in his 16 innings on the mound, giving him a minuscule 0.56 ERA.

His batterymate, Cieri, is a junior at the University of Maryland. While only playing seven games as catcher, he has amassed a .375 batting average at the plate in the 20 games he's played.

Calica, a senior at University of California Santa Barbara, is leading the Gatemen in batting average, hitting a tremendous .394, and RBIs, with 14 in only 21 games with the Gatemen.

The four reserve All-Stars for the Gatemen are infielder David MacKinnon, outfielder Charlie Warren and pitchers Evan Hill and Ian Hamilton.

One of the four Cape Cod Leaguers in the Home Run Derby will be Gatemen Logan Sowers. Sowers only has one home run this season, but history is on his side. The last time the All-Star Game was held in Wareham, in 2007, Gatemen Luke Murton won the Home Run Derby, beating out current Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland.
