Several town beaches closed

Aug 1, 2010

The North Boulevard, East Boulevard, Pinehurst, Forbes, and Indian Mound beaches are currently closed.

Beach water samples were analyzed for water quality on August 25. The Barnstable County Laboratory notified the Wareham Board of Health that the aforementioned beaches have tested beyond the allowable tolerances for coliform bacteria levels.

Swimming at the North Boulevard, East Boulevard, Pinehurst, Forbes, and Indian Mound beaches could pose potentially serious health problems to certain segments of the general population, i.e. the very young, very old, or immune compromised.

The recent rain is likely a contributing factor to the closures. Re-testing will be performed to have as many of these beaches re-opened for the weekend as possible.

All other beaches are open and safe to swim.
