Sewer rates to increase slightly

Feb 19, 2021

Sewer rates will be increasing slightly this year.

Homeowners are billed for sewer usage twice per year. Each bill will be increased by $10, which Guy Campinha, the director of water pollution control, said will cover the increased costs of doing business.

Campinha said that the Sewer Commissioners will soon begin working on a system to make sewer billing more equitable. Now, each single-family homeowner pays the same amount for sewer usage, whether that home has one bedroom or eight.

Because the town does not have the ability to bill based on water usage, billing is based on an equivalent dwelling unit schedule (EDU). That means that billing is based on the average usage of a single-family home. The commissioners hope to make that billing more equitable by tailoring bills to the size of the household.
