A simple act of kindness keeps going
Although I wanted to publish this letter anonymously, in order for it to be published in the paper, I've added my name. My hope is to share how a small act of kindness can go a long way. With the holiday season upon us, maybe you'll also commit a small act of kindness and see the same results.
To the Editor:
On 9/11, I put a mum plant with a flag by the bench in Onset on the bluff that was put there by a family who lost a family member on that awful day. I try to remember those who did not survive, in my thoughts usually. This year, I put a mum plant with a flag in honor of all those who died that day. That was on Sept. 11.
Well, the plant is still there today. It has fallen over, someone straightened it up. Then it rolled or blew a few feet away; someone put it on the bench. It fell off; someone put it in front of the bench. It moved from there: the other day, I noticed it is now at the other end of the bench still with the flag, and another flag joined it at some point.
Well folks, today is Nov. 7 and due to the simple act of kindness I did by putting a plant with a flag to remember those who died on 9/11, it had turned into many acts of kindness: those who stopped to fix a plant and keep it there on the bluff in Onset. Maybe it's just me... I think all those who keep that plant there are performing simple acts of kindness. Too bad we don't have more plants to place around Town so simple acts of kindness would go all year long.
I truly want to remain anonymous and hope others will do the simple act of kindness too. Thanks to all who kept the plant.
Sincerely,
Donna Gerard,
an Onset resident
