A six-year-old Wareham child, Chandler Pina reached out for help and saved his mother during an emergency.

On Sunday night, Elizabeth Pina, was having a medical emergency for which she remains hospitalized at Boston Medical Center. Chandler called his grandmother,   Samantha Demers, for help.

Demers dialed for 9-1-1 and remained on the phone with Chandler before the ambulance arrived to transport Elizabeth to the hospital.

Wareham Police Chef John Walcek thanked Chandler for his bravery and selfless thinking by coming to Decas’s outdoor classroom Wednesday with a surprise party of pizza and cupcakes for Chandler and his classmates.
