Smoker causes false alarm at Onset apartment complex

Wareham and Onset firefighters responded an apartment complex at 4 Union Avenue in Onset on Saturday, Sept. 1 after smoke was reported in the building’s elevator shaft.
The Bourne Fire Department was called in to assist with their tower truck and all residents were evacuated safely from the four-story building.
It was later determined that a meat smoker from a nearby restaurant was the cause of the alarm. Residents were allowed to return to the building and no injuries or damages were reported.
