Song written in memory of Ryan Levangie released today on iTunes
"One of the Angels," a song written by Wareham singer/songwriter Grace Morrison in memory Ryan Levangie, has been released on iTunes. Levangie passed away unexpectedly at 29 after a motorcycle accident in July.
Morrison said she was inspired to write the song for Levangie, who she graduated from Wareham High School with in 2003, after seeing an outpouring of support on his Facebook page following the accident.
"He was just a very friendly, uplifting individual,” said Morrison. “He would still message me from time to time to see how my music was doing and every time I saw him he had a big smile on his face.”
The song also features Pete Francis, one of the singers for the popular national touring Gact Dispatch. Morrison said that Francis’ part in the song is meant to be Levangie’s message to those who knew him.
“[The message is] to live life now—to live for the moment and not put things off,” she said. “I think that was the best way to honor him.”
Not only did Morrison recruit some outside talent to record the song, but she also got the help of a local artist for the cover art for the track.
“We were really close at an important time in my life,” said Moriah Bassett, a lifetime Wareham resident. Bassett is currently in the process of finishing the artwork, which shows pictures of Levangie smiling, which most remember him doing so often. “He was just a really, really kind guy.”
Proceeds from the song will go towards a memorial fund for Levangie. The track is available at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/one-angels-feat.-pete-francis/id928722797.
