Sound Tower celebrates four years of rock
After four years and 260 shows, the local band Sound Tower is showing no signs of stopping.
The band played a fourth anniversary celebration show at the Fan Club Saturday night, a venue they've come to know well.
Sound Tower singer and Wareham Police officer George Dionne said local bars such as the Fan Club and the recently closed down Piper's stood by the band through thick and thin.
“We built a name for ourselves and met a lot of our fans at those places,” said Dionne, who started the band in 2010, noting that they've grown a solid local following since then.
The band predominantly plays covers of rock and pop songs from the last 50 years, from “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison to a rock and roll cover of “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO.
“We just want to entertain people,” said guitarist Jack Crowley, who has been with the band since its inception. “I've been in a lot of bands. I wanted to play stuff that people dance and jump around to.”
“The band as a whole has just as much fun as the crowd,” added Dionne.
According to drummer Jim Fitzgerald, Sound Tower plays 60-80 shows a year and has recently expanded beyond the local bar scene.
Sound Tower has played private functions across the South Coast from Fairhaven to Raynham to Bourne as well as fundraisers, such as Relay for Life in Wareham.
The band will be headlining the opening night of the Scallop Festival at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds next month for the second straight year.
The Band members say they would like to continue doing more private shows and fundraisers as well as to write some more original music. Whatever they choose to do, they just want to keep the crowds entertained.
"Sometimes, there's a couple of bad shows and you think about throwing in the towel," Dionne said. "But when you get a good show and people are having fun, it propels you."
