Spinney Library to close during transfer to town

May 31, 2012

Onset's Spinney Memorial Library will close on June 2 as the town prepares to take over the operation of the library.

Town Meeting voted in April to accept the library as a branch of the Wareham Free Library. The nonprofit Friends of the Wareham Free Library had been operating the Spinney since raising funds for the historic building's renovation and addition.

Spinney will reopen as a full-service branch of the Wareham Free Library in early July.

The Friends are currently working with the town to transfer the property's deed. While the Spinney is closed, library staff will be purchasing new books and materials and setting up the SAILS system, which provides inter-library loan services with libraries throughout the region.

Wareham Free Library cards will be accepted at the Spinney. Anyone without a card may apply for one at the main library or at Spinney once it reopens. A library card will be needed to both take out books and to use the computers.

A grand-opening celebration is being planned. Stay tuned for the date once it is announced!
