Spinney Library patrons say 'Thanks'
Winna Dean delivered a thank-you card and some facts to back it up when she appeared before Selectmen Tuesday.
Dean, one of a group of community members who spent years raising the funds to renovate the historic Onset building that is now the Spinney Library branch of the Wareham Free Library, thanked Selectmen, the library director and the Friends of the Wareham Free Library for keeping the Spinney open even in a time of deep funding cuts for the library as a whole.
Her oversized thank-you card was covered in notes from patrons. One, in a child’s scrawl, said: “I want more because I like the books and movies and the computers.”
Although the Spinney is open only two days a week for a total of five hours, Dean noted that it was regularly used by the Boys & Girls Club this summer, the Head Start program during the school year and community members “waiting to get on a computer” as soon as the doors open.
