Spiritualists make connections at holistic and psychic fair

A belief in Spiritualism was alive and kicking last Saturday as the biannual Holistic/Psychic Fair sponsored by the First Spiritualist Church of Onset drew large crowds to the Wareham Lodge of Elks.

The event is held as a fundraiser for the church, which is located at 17 Highland Ave. Spiritualism is a religion that believes spirits of the dead have the ability to communicate with the living through mediums.

The event had an entire section of mediums, readers and healers from across the South coast in addition to a more traditional craft vendor section. The craft section included everything from jewelry and scarves to decorative and healing stones and minerals.

"We help people develop their spiritual gifts and enhance their skills," said Rev. Kathleen Hoffman of the First Spiritualist Church, who was doing readings and spiritual portraits during the fair.

The Church hosts two fairs a year, one in April and one in November. Hoffman said the proceeds from the fundraiser go to the church and that one of the main aspects they focus on is education.

"A lot of people come to the fair and then end up at the church," Hoffman said.
