Spring Town Meeting set for April 27
Selectmen have set a series of deadlines in the run up to Spring Town Meeting, which will take place on April 27.
There are deadlines for the submission of articles (the items on the Town Meeting agenda) as well as closing and publishing the warrant (which lists the agenda items, time and place of the meeting).
On Tuesday, Selectmen announced that Feb. 2 is the deadline for any non-citizen petition article. That is anything submitted by town department heads, Selectmen, or any other town board or committee.
Thursday, Feb. 12 is the deadline for any citizens to submit petition articles for the warrant.
Tuesday, Feb. 17 is the day the warrant should be closed by the Selectmen.
Thursday, March 12 is the last day to publish the entire warrant in the local newspaper.
Spring Town Meeting will then take place 45 days later on Monday, April 27.
The official beginning of Town Meeting, however, will be on Tuesday, April 7 when the town holds its annual elections.
There are many positions up for election in various town offices. This includes Alan Slavin's seat on the Board of Selectmen, which he said he will seek re-election for, as well as two seats on the School Committee. Committee member Geoff Swett said he will likely seek re-election for his position but School Committee member Michael Flaherty said he will not seek re-election, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
There will also be elections held for the brand new, five-member Board of Sewer Commissioners. Nomination papers for all open positions will be available on Monday, Jan. 12.
For a full list of all open positions and more information on the election, visit the town website.
