State primary draws 1.6 percent of Wareham's registered voters
Of Wareham’s 14,709 registered voters, 913 (1.6 percent) cast ballots in what turned out to be a quiet state primary that featured one contested race on Thursday.
On the Republican ballot for U.S. Congress Mark Alliegro (R-Falmouth) received 221 votes to Thomas O’Malley’s (R-Marshfield) 138 votes. There were no other contested races.
The results of the rest of the Republican ballot are as follows: State Representative Susan Williams Gifford (R-Wareham), 344; State senator, Sandra Wright (R-Bridgewater), 299; sheriff, Joseph McDonald, Jr. (R-Kingston) 309; county commissioner, Daniel Pallotta (R-Hanover) 188; county commissioner, Anthony O’Brien, Sr. (R-Pembroke) 254.
The results for the Democratic ballot are as follows: State representative Sarah Hewins (D-Carver), 345; U.S. Representative, William Keating (D-Bourne), 363; governor’s council first district, Joseph Ferreira (D-Somerset) 356; state senator, Marc Pacheco (D-Taunton), 366; sheriff, Scott Vecchi (D-Plymouth) 351; county commissioner, Greg Hanley (D-Pembroke), 301; county commissioner, Lincoln Heineman (D-Scituate) 227.
The next time Wareham voters head to the polls will be Tuesday, Nov. 8 when they will help choose the country’s next president.
