The Stop and Shop strike is over, as the company and unions have reached a tentative agreement. Each union will have to ratify the agreement before it is final.

According to releases by both the UFCW Local 328, of which Wareham Stop & Shop workers are members, and Stop & Shop, the agreement was reached late in the day on Sunday, April 21.

Workers were scheduled to return to work on the morning of Monday, April 22. In its statement, Stop & Shop said the workers’ first priority will be restocking stores, and that the company appreciates “the patience and understanding of our customers during this time.”

The three-year agreement includes increased pay for all associates, continuing “excellent” health coverage for all eligible associates, and ongoing pension benefits for eligible associates, according to Stop & Shop’s release.

In a post announcing the end of the strike, UFCW Local 328 thanked union members and the community members that supported them, and urged workers to be proud of their accomplishments: “Be proud of what you have accomplished on the line, thank your friends, neighbors and customers who signed petitions, brought food, and shared your message with the world. And most importantly, thank your union family who stood through bad weather and tough times, to hold the line with you. The message you sent by collectively standing up for yourselves, your families, and for good jobs, has resonated not only with the company, but all of America.”

The agreement will be finalized after it is ratified by members of the five unions who participated in the strike.
