'Streetscape' construction works begins

Nov 3, 2016

Construction began this week on a $500,000 project that will bring new sidewalks, crosswalks and curbing to a small section of Main Street in Wareham Village, located between Sawyer and Chapel streets.

The project is the fourth phase of the Main Street streetscape improvement project, spearheaded by the Community Economic Development Authority. Five years ago, an overhaul of Main Street’s appearance was launched. The project brought a different look to the Village that included new light poles, benches, sidewalks and “bump outs,” which are areas of sidewalk that extend into the street to make pedestrians more visible to drivers.

Main Street will remain open as the majority of work is performed, but there will be one or two days where detours are necessary.

Construction is estimated to be finished at the end of this year.
