"Streetscape" project begins on Main Street
Work on an $800,000 project aimed at beautifyng Main Street began on Monday, Nov. 14.
Traffic going east on Main Street was detoured onto Merchants Way Thursday, Nov. 17 as drainage work was being done in front of the Post Office. Traffic traveling west on Main Street was directed around the work site into the empty east-bound lane and then returned to traveling normally.
Phase 1 of the grant-funded Community and Economic Development Authority project focuses on the area from the Post Office to Center Street. Work will involve repaving; creation of "bump out" curbing, replacement of the existing streetlight poles with new lights designed to look like old-fashioned globe lights on cast-iron poles; and a redesign of two alleys connecting Main Street to Merchants Way.
