Strutting their stuff for the Y

May 2, 2011

The "runway" was the floor of Salerno's function hall in Onset, the models were very familiar to many in the audience, and the cause was raising funds to help complete expansion of the Gleason Family YMCA.

Sunday's fashion show featured several members of the Y staff and some active participants in Y programs modeling fashions from area shops, including the Old Company Store and Sail Away Studio of Wareham.

Jill Tompkins, director of development - capital for YMCA Southcoast, said today that she did not yet know the final tally, but was pleased with the show and associated raffle. It was the first time the Y had ventured into the world of fashion.

The funds are being raised to pay for the final piece of a building project which has already resulted in an expanded gym, indoor running track, and outdoor pool at the Charge Pond Road facility. The last leg is completion of new adult locker rooms and a second aerobics studio.
