Students win awards in recent DECA competition

Jan 16, 2024

Of the 29 students who boarded the bus and headed to the DECA competition at Emerald Resort in Hyannis on Thursday, Jan. 4 and Friday, Jan. 5, 22 returned to Wareham High School with awards.

Wareham DECA is an organization and extra-curricular club at Wareham High School that prepares emerging entrepreneurs and leaders in management, marketing, finance and hospitality.

The DECA students faced off against 13 high schools across the region.

The club attributes its success to its advisor of seven years, Lisa Cunha.

DECA President Stoney Ferry said, “I'm incredibly happy of what our chapter has accomplished at the district level, and I'm eager to bring the same upbeat attitude to states.”

Twenty-two students are set to compete at the Massachusetts DECA State Career Development Conference this upcoming March 7 through 9.

Students won in both the “Mini” and “Grand” award ceremonies.
