People came in hungry for the Saturday Summertime Pig Roast and BBQ in Onset. But they left full and happy. 

The town’s annual grill-fest filled part of the Onset VFW Post for a few hours, as nearly two hundred guests filed in to feast on roasted farm-raised pork, savory burgers, grilled chicken, buttery corn and other greasy cook-out favorites.

Many food fans also came out for the live music, as the Walrus Gumboot Band played some all-time favorite Beatles songs. Many guests quickly picked up the beat and danced in their own styles.

Guests could also check out the classic car show, enjoy lawn games and try their chances at a 50/50 raffle. 

“I like that the whole town gets together and has a good time on a hot summer afternoon,” said one of the event organizers, Paul Girard. “You’ve got cars, you’ve got food and great music.”

The roasted pig came from Tenofus Farm in Buzzards Bay. The farm owner, Robert Flynn, believed the pig roast added a great value to the event. 

“I usually don’t cook pigs, I only raise them. But the Onset Bay Association is a great group so I said that I will do it,” said Flynn. “Everyone is enjoying the night and the money goes to a good cause.” 

All the proceeds will benefit the Onset Bay Association. 

Some guests said that the summer BBQ in Onset is their favorite outdoor town event. 

“Not only this food tastes great, but there are so many people that have a chance to bond with each other and relax after a long week,” said one of the guests, Mary Livingston. “I love how everyone is care-free and just enjoys the moment."
