Swifts Beach Little Leaguers take home championship for 8th straight year

Despite some struggles in the beginning, the Swifts Beach Little Leaguers managed to come out the victor in this year’s championships for the 8th year in a row.

Assistant coach Chris Thornell said four of Wareham’s five teams made the playoffs, and that the top two teams this year were Onset and Swifts Beach. Swifts Beach won the first game 17-8 last Wednesday night, and the second game 8-1 last Thursday night, both against Onset.

Thornell said he was very proud of this year’s team. He said many of the players on the team were new to baseball, and had to work extra-hard to make it to the playoffs.

“They really came hard to every practice,” Thornell said. “They worked hard, they listened, and every one of ‘em got better. … At the end of the season, they really turned it on.”
