Teen male charged with armed robbery
A teenager was arrested July 3 charged with armed robbery after police say he used an Airsoft pistol painted to resemble a handgun during the incident, which occurred at approximately 3 a.m. at the Cumberland Farms on Depot Street.
The suspect walked into the store wearing a mask and left with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
Responding officer Sgt. John Gerard spotted a young man crossing Routes 6 and 28 near Depot Street one minute after the robbery.
Police said the suspect was taken to his parent’s home as the investigation got underway.
Using surveillance footage, police said they determined the young man matched the description of the one seen robbing the store. A search of the area uncovered a bag that held a mask, flashlight and clothing described as being worn by the suspect.
At daybreak, officers recovered a black Airsoft pistol with the orange tip painted black behind the Atlantic Motel.
Later in the investigation, police said cash stolen from the Cumberland Farms was found in the suspect’s home.
The suspect was then arrested. Police will not reveal the suspect’s identity because he is a juvenile.
