Textiles contest reaches halfway point

Oct 8, 2015

Wareham Public Schools have gathered a combined total of 4,735 pounds of textiles for the contest Baystate Textiles is holding for participating schools around Massachusetts – less than half of what is needed to win an extra $400.

The contest, which began on Sept. 1, lasts until Nov. 30. If the schools can donate a combined total of 16,000 pounds of material, Baystate Textiles will donate an additional $400, on top of the $100 monthly rebate the schools get.

PTA Corresponding Secretary Tricia Brogioli said the money “goes straight back into the schools,” funding things like field trips, and extra classroom supplies.

Brogioli said almost every material is acceptable, except foam. The only requirements are that it be clean and dry. Everything from old pocketbooks to shoes to sheets are fair game.

To donate, take any unwanted items to one of the four donation boxes at each of the schools. Wareham Middle School’s box is located around the back of the school, and Wareham High School’s box is located towards the front. Minot’s is near the student dropoff point, and Decas’ is to the side of the school.
