Thank you for help with Wareham Police Memorial

Jun 26, 2012

To the Editor:

On behalf of the volunteers I’d like to thank the Wareham Police Department for allowing us, as a community, to take on the beatification project at the Wareham Police Memorial on Marion Road.

Many thanks to the many people who made it possible:

Lowes Manager Chris Mullins who, on his second day as manager, agreed to support the project and defray some of the costs of the planting materials. Thank you also to all the staff at Lowe’s for their patience during my numerous trips back and forth to the store.

Thank you to the woman who donated $20 before the project even began. She declined to give her name, but I hope she reads this.

Thanks to Mike and Ryan Lenihan who volunteered to reposition one of the curb stones that had shifted out of place at the Memorial.

Thanks to John and Connie Wiliszowski and Donna and Rick Cudworth, all of whom are newcomers to Wareham. They provided the trucks and trailers and assisted in transporting the pallets of large trees from Lowe’s to the Police Memorial.

Thank you also to the tree planters: Tony Montrond, Steve Maxim, and James Kelly.

In addition to Lowe’s, thank you to the other area businesses that provided financial support for the project: Director Christopher Berg from the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home and Rose Berry from Eastern Bank.

Thank you to Linda Finnegan, Founder of the Wareham Area Litter Mob, who contributed on behalf of the Wareham Area Litter Mob.

Thank you to the widows and family members of the Wareham police officers for their enthusiastic support of the project: Stacey Sylvester, Patricia Roberts, Elna Hulbert, and Joyce Hulbert Taylor.

Mrs. Hulbert donated the two Leyland cypress trees in memory of her husband Llewellyn Hulbert.

Thank you to Herbert Barrett (retired WPD) and Mrs. Arlene Barrett for visiting the Memorial and sharing many fond “back in the day” memories with me.

Thank you to “Diggers and Planters”: Mary Bruce, Donna and Rick Cudworth, James Kelly, Madeline Mele, Richard Paulsen, and Sandy Slavin.

Thank you to those who donated trees and shrubs and also provided the man/woman power when it came time for planting. This could not have been achieved without the community working together.

I’m not planning to purchase any more plants. I would, however, like to see more vinca/periwinkle groundcover added around the perimeter of the Memorial. If anyone has vinca to share, please feel free to either plant it in an empty spot or contact me through treeandshubdonation@gmail.com and I will pick it up and plant it.

Thank you,

Karen Spinks
