Thank you from Mass Audubon

Feb 26, 2019

To the Editor:

On behalf of Mass Audubon and our 125,000 members, I would like to thank the greater Wareham and South Coast communities for their support in protecting the 110-acre Sacred Hearts property on Great Neck.

We are especially grateful to the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts for providing the opportunity to conserve this beautiful coastal expanse on Widow’s Cove, and to the more than 80 individual donors who raised $2.6 million in a very short period of time to purchase this property.

Mass Audubon had been an engaged neighbor and conservation resource on the South Coast for decades, first with our Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Dartmouth and Westport and in more recent years at Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary in Wareham. We’re confident the permanent protection of the Sacred Hearts land will not only enhance the wildlife and habitat diversity at Great Neck and along Buzzards Bay, but will give the public even greater opportunities to connect with nature.

Sincerely,
Gary Clayton,
President, Mass Audubon
