Thank you for a 'tremendous' response

Nov 1, 2010

To the Editor:

On Monday, October 25, I sent an email to dozens of Wareham contacts in my address book requesting a gently used electric stove for a large family that had been without a stove for several weeks.

The response was tremendous.

At 12:57 on Tuesday, October 26, I was on a conference call, arranged by Town Administrator Mark Andrews, with Steve Morrison, owner of the newly relocated Sears store in the Jordan Plaza on Cranberry Highway.

I had barely finished explaining the need when without missing a beat, I heard Mr. Morrison say, "If you get me the contact information, we can do the delivery on Saturday."

Unbelievable.  Unbelievable, that is, if you don't live in Wareham, but highly believable if you know anything about how Wareham individuals, organizations and businesses work to provide for those in need.

Thanks to a wonderful collaboration among the Board of Selectmen, Mark Andrews, and a local business, a struggling family has had their faith and hope renewed.   Many thanks also to all of you who went into action as soon as you heard of the need.  You are wonderful.  God bless you.
