Thanks for a successful, inaugural live auction

Aug 11, 2010

To the Editor,

WCTV's LIVE Auction & Entertainment Weekend was held the last weekend in May. The inaugural launch joined the forces of WCTV staff and membership with nonprofit partners to create 12 hours of live television.

This year's partners were the Boys & Girls Club of Wareham, Earth Lodge and Onset Youth Center. Due to its success, WCTV's LIVE Auction & Entertainment Weekend will be an annual event supporting local nonprofits, showcasing local talent, and promoting businesses & organizations.

In addition to our hardworking partners, the event could not have been a success without the support of local businesses and many volunteers. Key kudos go to Cape Cod Express for opening its doors to let us use 10,000 square feet and Scott Record for filling it with song, stories and laughter. Scott also served as sherpa, guiding us up a precipitously steep live-TV auction and entertainment learning curve.

Event proceeds will be evenly divided among the partners. They will receive their checks during WCTV's annual meeting on September 29 at Salerno's, in Onset. Key supporters of the event will also be acknowledged at the meeting. For most, it will be their first opportunity to see themselves through the camera eye as portions of the event will be part of the annual montage of WCTV programming.

The event could not have been both fun and profitable without the collective efforts of our partners. They took on the risk of the unknown with enthusiasm, creativity and patience while putting in long hours to organize the event. To acknowledge their efforts, the WCTV Board of Directors has invited them back next year. The 2010 partners will mentor two additional nonprofits for the 2011 event. Nonprofit applications will be available mid-fall. While the date of next year's WCTV LIVE Auction & Entertainment Weekend is not yet determined as space availability is a prerequisite, WCTV hopes the event will be held sometime between mid-April & mid-May. While many months away, we are already planning for the event. For more information, please contact Sally Morrison at sammorrison@comcast.net.
Don't just watch TV... MAKE TV. It's more fun.
