A heated election

The Wareham Fire District annual elections will take place from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. at 2550 Cranberry Highway. 

Off the bench

Join the Wareham Land Trust to construct a bench for Marks Cove at Whitlock’s Landing. 

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. and work until about 12 p.m. Tools will be provided but volunteers are welcome to bring their own. 

Parking is available onsite at Whitlock’s Landing, 150 Glen Charlie Road, East Wareham.

Spring into song

All ages are invited to “Spring into Action and Song” at the Onset Bay Center, 186 Onset Avenue at 10:30 a.m. 

The show will celebrate spring in all of its flowery, song-filled wonder. Audience members will become worms, flowers, birds, sun, rain and more.

This show, the second in a quarterly series of seasonal programs, will be presented by self-proclaimed stand-up chameleon Jackson Gillman.

Tuesday, April 16

Celebrate arbor day

An Arbor Day celebration will be presented by the Wareham Garden Club from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wareham Free Library, 59 Marion Road. 

There will be a White Dogwood seedling giveaway while supplies last. Blake Dinius, Entomologist for Plymouth County, will give an educational talk about insects at 11 a.m.

Wareham Children’s Librarian, Marcia Hickey, will set up a StoryWalk and read about trees.

There will be a seed planting table for children, face painting and a recycling activity as well as information about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.

Strike a pose

The Wareham Council on Aging will present a spring fashion show and luncheon.

Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m., and the fashion show will be held at 12 p.m.

Council on Aging seniors and special guests from Daisy Troop 77427 will model their favorite fashions. The Council is still looking for stylish volunteers to take a walk on the runway; those interested can call the Council office at 508-291-3130. 

Space is limited. Tickets are $5, and are available at the Council on Aging reception desk until they are sold out.

Sing a stone church song

Singer-songwriters Michael Salafia and Ann Cavanaugh will join musical forces to perform at the second free monthly “Arts at Stone Church Cafe” event. 

Salafia and Cavanaugh will take the audience on a wide-ranging romp through American and Irish folk music, pop, rock and jazz, often with audience participation. 

“Arts at Stone Church Cafe” is a free event on the third Tuesday of the month, held at the First Congregational Church of Wareham at 11 Gibbs Avenue. The cafe begins with a light meal at 6:30 followed by a 7:30 performance. Doors open at 6:15.

Wednesday, April 17

Climate consequences

Join the Citizens’ Climate Lobby and the Wareham Land Trust on Wednesday, April 17 for three short documentaries on local solutions to the consequences of climate change. 

The event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Wareham Public Library meeting room, 59 Marion Road. There will be three eight-minute films, with discussion and a question and answer session to follow each one.

The crime of the century

At 11 a.m., learn how to keep yourself safe from scams with District Attorney Timothy Cruz at the Wareham Free Library.
