Three injured in wrong-way crash on 495

Feb 1, 2013

State Police are investigating a wrong-way crash on Route 495 that injured three people just after midnight on Friday, Feb. 1.

Police say that Kevin H. Schmidt, 24, of Middleborough, was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger pick-up in the wrong direction on Route 495 when he struck a 2012 Nissan Sentra operated by 26-year-old Lise B. Calixte of Randolph and a 1996 Geo Prizm operated by 48-year-old Eileen M. O'Donnell of Falmouth.

Schmidt was transported to Tobey Hospital with serious injuries, and was later airlifted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, police said. A spokesman for the hospital did not immediately return inquiries on Schmidt's condition.

Calixte suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. She has been discharged, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed.

Police said that O'Donnell suffered minor injuries, but was not transported from the scene to any medical facility.

It is unclear why Schmidt was driving in the wrong direction. He has not been charged or cited at this time. State Police from the Bourne barracks are investigating.
