Three men are facing assault charges after a Sunday morning argument at an Onset home that involved both a dumbbell and a sword.

Wareham Police arrived at a home on Midway Street at approximately 10:45 a.m. A woman told officers that she was assaulted by 55-year-old George Maxim of 10A Midway Street, according to police.

Maxim allegedly approached the woman, during an argument while holding a dumbbell weight, police said.

Police said that the situation became violent, with Maxim allegedly assaulting the woman. The woman's boyfriend, 19-year-old Zachary Lavelle of 10B Midway Street, then allegedly physically assaulted Maxim.

Upon seeing Lavelle assault his father, Maxim's son, 25-year-old Scott Maxim, allegedly swung a sheathed sword at Lavelle in retaliation, according to police.

George Maxim was taken to Tobey Hospital with a head injury, and later transported to a Boston-area hospital via medical helicopter, police said.

The woman was treated at Tobey Hospital for minor injuries sustained when she was pushed to the ground, according to police.

George Maxim is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — a dumbbell. Scott Maxim is also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — the sword. Zachary Lavelle has been charged with assault and battery.
