Three seats available in Wareham Fire District’s April election

Jan 8, 2019

Wareham Fire District officials announced that nomination papers for three seats will be available starting on Jan. 22. The district’s election is scheduled for April 13.

The Wareham Fire District supplies water and fire protection for much of Wareham. A separate Onset Fire District performs the same function in Onset. Separate from the Town of Wareham, the Fire District is overseen by an elected five-member Prudential Committee. The district sets the water rates and allocates funds for the Fire Department.

There are two seats on the Prudential Committee and one on the Board of Water Commissioners. All three seats are for three-year terms. Nomination papers will be available in the clerk/treasurer’s office, located at 2550 Cranberry Highway.

The district’s annual meeting is scheduled for April 8 where voters will weigh the district’s budget, any potential spending requests from fire and water officials and other matters. The deadline to submit items for that meeting’s agenda is 5 p.m. on March 8.

Currently, George Barrett and John Connolly Jr. hold seats on the Prudential Committee. Edward J. Tamagini is on the Board of Water Commissioners

All three won re-election to their respective boards in 2016. Wareham Week has reached out to the incumbents seeking comment.
