Tobey Hospital’s new emergency room to open for tours May 18
Tobey Hospital will be hosting a community open house at its brand-new Baldwin Makepeace Emergency Center from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18.
Space is limited and masks will be required during the tour. To reserve a spot, click here.
The center will expand the hospital’s space dedicated to emergency care from 17,500 square feet to 25,000 square feet — enough space for 40,000 visits each year.
As of September 2020, Tobey Hospital was seeing 30,000 patients each year in its emergency department that was built in 1987 to accommodate only 15,000 patients annually.
The expansion is a $25 million project.
The new emergency room will have 27 treatment rooms, including six that will be specially designed for those experiencing mental health or substance abuse disorders.
Work began on the site in September 2020.
