Town to clean up cemeteries
The Municipal Maintenance Department is preparing to clean and revitalize the three town-owned cemeteries this fall, and is has announced that it will remove items placed on the grave lots in the process.
The department has determined that there are shrubs and/or trees located on various lots at Long Neck, Agawam and Centre cemeteries that are either spreading onto other lots or pose a safety threat to visitors.
Any shrub too large for a lot or one that poses a safety threat will be removed by the department this fall as stated in the town of Wareham’s Cemetery Rules and Regulations.
Anyone wishing to retrieve personal items placed on cemetery grave lots, such as statues, wind chimes, fencing, breakable objects and any other items, should do so prior to Oct. 1, 2014. All items that are not removed by the owners will be disposed of during the town’s fall landscaping operations.
