Town seeks state grants for infrastructure projects

The Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday to give Town Administrator Mark Andrews authorization to submit two grants for two separate projects in town.

The town's Community & Economic Development Authority (CEDA) and A.D. Makepeace are both pursuing $1 million MassWorks Infrastructure Program Grants for upcoming projects.

Community & Economic Development Authority chair Jean Connaughton told the board it was seeking the state grant to fund the second, third, and fourth phases of construction on a downtown revitalization project.

As a part of the project, sidewalks, street lights, and crosswalks along Main Street would be updated and beautified, Connaughton said.

The Community & Economic Development Authority is currently seeking a developer for the first phase of the project, according to Connaughton.

A.D. Makepeace is pursuing the grant with the town to construct a roadway to connect Rosebrook Way off of Cranberry Highway in the Rosebrook Business Park to Tihonet Road. The 3,050 foot long road would be designed to handle two-way traffic with extended shoulders for bicycle paths, according to Linda Burke, A.D. Makepeace Vice President of Marketing and Communication.
