Town sticks with single tax rate
Nov 11, 2015
Wareham will continue to use a single tax rate for residences and businesses.
With little ado, Selectmen Tuesday held the required annual public hearing on the matter, heard assessing officials’ recommendation to retain the single rate, noted that no member of the public appeared to speak on the subject, and voted unanimously to retain the single rate.
“Nothing has changed since last year, so there’s really no reason to change it,” Selectman Chair Patrick Tropeano told the assessors.
While a split tax rate would allow the town to shift more of the tax burden onto businesses and away from homeowners, town officials have consistently maintained that doing so would send the wrong message to businesses in town and those looking to locate here.
