'Triple E' threat raised in towns north of Wareham
The threat levels for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, also known as "Triple E," have been raised in three towns just north of Wareham.
The threat level has been raised to "High" in Carver, "Moderate" in Plymouth, and "Moderate" in Kingston, officials from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced on Tuesday, August 21.
Threat levels were raised because health officials found mammal-biting mosquitoes infected with Triple E in Carver and Kingston.
“This has been an exceptionally active summer for EEE activity in mosquitoes in southeastern Massachusetts, and today’s announcement only underlines the importance of personal protective measures against mosquito bites,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Al DeMaria.
“Use insect repellant, cover up exposed skin, and avoid outdoor activities at dusk and nighttime, when mosquitoes are at their most active."
