Two arrested in connection to Sunday evening shooting
Wareham Police have arrested two suspects in connection to a shooting on Fearing Street Sunday night.
Police responded to reports of gun fire at 66 Fearing Street in the Indian Mound Beach neighborhood of Wareham shortly after 7 p.m.
The investigation led to a vehicle that was in the area at the time of the call. Once patrolmen had located the vehicle, two occupants were arrested.
David Monteiro Jr., 33, of 153 Indian Neck Road, and Brian Townley, 24, of 14 Tomahawk Drive, were arrested and both charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and possession of chemical mace without a Firearms Identification Card. Monteiro was also placed in protective custody.
There were no injuries as a result of the shooting, however, one Wareham Police Officer received a serious injury to his lower leg and ankle when he slipped during the investigation. He was transported to Tobey Hospital by EMS where he was treated and released. He did not return to duty.
Both individuals were transported to Wareham 4th District Court on Jan. 24 after being held overnight at the Wareham Police station. Monteiro is held in lieu of $3,000 cash bail. Townley posted $500 cash bail and was released.
Wareham Police detectives are continuing their investigation into this incident.
