A car accident at which police found small bags of suspected cocaine Thursday night left a woman passenger minorly injured, the Wareham Police Department said.

Police said officers responded to the reported accident at 10:20 p.m. in the area of 302 Plymouth Ave. According to police, the car veered off the road at a high speed, and hit a fence. The driver, later identified as 46-year-old Onset resident William Caccialini, fled the scene on foot, but the woman passenger remained in the car, due to minor head injuries. She was taken to Tobey Hospital to be treated.

Police said they also found nine to 10 small plastic bags containing what they suspected to be cocaine.

Though the officers could not find Caccialini that night, police said he went to Tobey Hospital the next morning, around 2 a.m., to check on the woman he left at the accident. Police said Caccialini was also treated at Tobey Hospital for minor injuries, resulting from the accident.

Police said investigation of the accident is ongoing, and that they expect to file criminal charges, including multiple motor vehicle offenses and possible drug charges.
