Two officers win prestigious E911 award
Patrol Officer David Simmons and Communications Officer Edward Johnson have been awarded the prestigious Massachusetts State 9-1-1 Honors Award for 2010.
Officers Simmons and Johnson were nominated by Wareham Police Communications Supervisor Peter Murphy and Chief Richard Stanley as a result of the officers' actions in response to an Emergency 911 call they received on Oct. 21, 2009.
Both officers were assigned to the desk when they received a call from 10-year-old Timothy Brown who reported his mother was on the floor and not breathing. Communications Officer Johnson was able to keep the boy calm and reassured him that help was on the way while Officer Simmons directed Police, EMS and Fire personnel to the scene. The mother was taken to Tobey Hospital and recovered fully.
Brown was previously awarded the "Steven Brown Courageous Kid Award," which was created in honor of his brother, the late Steven Brown, by Wareham Police Sgt. John Walcek and Patrol Officer Herbert Noble. Steven Brown was medically disabled and was a great inspiration to Timothy and members of the Wareham Police Department for his courage.
The awards will be presented to Officers Johnson and Simmons on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.
