UPDATE: Alleged robber of Stop & Shop identified as "Teardrop Bandit"

Sep 10, 2015

A suspect in robberies from Wareham to Connecticut known as the "Teardrop Bandit" was arrested on Sept. 11 in connection with the Sept. 9 robbery of the Citizens Bank inside the East Wareham Stop & Shop.

Robert Chadronet, 37, was arrested in his East Providence, Rhode Island home. Wareham Police said he may also be involved in a robbery at People's Bank in Milford, Connecticut that occurred Aug. 18.

Chadronet has been imprisoned for other robberies in the past.

According to past reports, in 2005 he was linked to a TD Banknorth branch robbery in Foxoboro and again in 2008 at a Citizens Bank branch in a Stop & Shop in Mansfield. He was sentenced to four years in prison for the Foxboro heist and another three for the Mansfield robbery.

For the Foxoboro and Mansfield robberies, Chadronet disguised himself with a fake teardrop tattoo on his face and was subsequently dubbed the Teardrop Bandit, said Milford Police.

During the reported robbery at the Wareham Citizens Bank, police said an unmasked man handed the bank teller a note that told her the bank was being robbed and that he had a weapon.

Police said the teller gave the man an undetermined amount of money. He then left the supermarket in an unknown direction. Officers and detectives responded to the reported robbery around 4 p.m.

According to Wareham Police, he was described as a "thin white male appearing to be in his 30s and 5'7" to 5'9" tall." There was no mention of a teardrop tattoo and surveillance photos show no sign of such a mark.

Milford police said Chadronet had his arraignment on Monday. He is currently being held by the Milford Police Department with bail set at $250,000.
